 Many years ago, only the king or the important person in the room sat on a chair. Other people stood or used benches. The chairs were tall and large and had many different decorations. They were made of stone and wood. In the 16th century, chairs became furniture for all people.

 Today a chair has got four legs, a seat, and a back. It has different shapes, sizes and colours. It is made of wood, plastic, metal and many other materials. You can find chairs in every house, flat, office or  other building. People like chairs; they are popular today.
